Resolved Question: 96 Chevy Cav wont start or go!?

Hi, I have a 96 Chevy Cavalier with a 2.4L DOHC non V-tec engine that is having some issues. First of all I got the car from a friend and he had some issues with it randomly not running, but hey I need a summer project so I bought it. Upon getting it the car ran great only had to park it once for like 20 min and it fired right up. But after making a few long distance trips it started acting up more, by long distance i mean from Walla Walla to Clarkston WA. I replaced the Fuel Filter and had no problems.Well about 2 weeks ago it died and wouldnt go again, I have not many car smarts (thats why im learning) and like zero cash to spend at this time for a mechanic-more fun to do it myself anyways. But now the problem is the car will start, idle (sometimes) and then die. If at any point the gas pedal is pushed in even a little tiny bit the car chokes and dies. I have just replaced the starter, fuel filter, spark plugs (getting spark), and checked all hoses. Note: that when trying to start the car one day it back fired and blew the stock air filter cover clean off, so i need to replace that.... I took it to auto zone (towed it) and it said it had a air problem but no hoses are leaking, worn or damaged that i can see under car, in engine or around engine. I have replaced the fuses for the fuel pump(swapped with AC one cause there the same), and done everything I can. I know the fuel pump is working cause if i turn the key to the "ON" position for about 3 seconds u hear a "wirr of the pump" from near middle of car. Im wondering if I need to replace the CAT, or maybe an O2 sensor, would that help...I am at a loss here and not sure what else to do, im on a tight budget, not car smart, and getting upset..if someone can please help me it would be appreciated. thank you, god bless. Btw speak in simple terms guys Im 21 and still kinda a "dee dee de" on car lingo.... Read More »
